about us
FU Magazine is a volunteer-based intersectional feminist publication run by a team of passionate young women seeking to make a difference in the world, and challenge the patriarchy and other types of oppression (gender, race, class, LGBTQ2S, ability-based and more) happening in the world around us.
F.U. stands for Feminism Unfiltered, and is our personal "fuck you” to the patriarchal ideals women are subjected to in mainstream society today. In addition to highlighting our commitment to critical, uncensored, and unfiltered content, our name also seeks to challenge the notion that women are supposed to be quiet, polite, and submissive. We know “fuck you” is dramatic, vulgar, and loud, but sometimes you need to do something dramatic to get people’s attention. In calling ourselves “FU Magazine,” we are committing to being loud, taking up space, demanding the attention and respect we deserve, and doing it all unapologetically.
FU Magazine's mission is to:
-
write critical, engaging, and thought-provoking feminist content
-
learn intersectionality and unlearn biases (we are ‘feminists in progress’)
-
be a fresh, unfiltered voice in feminism - we will be brutally raw and honest - grappling with controversial ideas in controversial ways (express opinions with no filtering, while also making sure they align with our values of inclusivity)
-
share critical and unfiltered thoughts and engaged responses as women in response to living in an unequivocally gendered world that was not created for us/intended to serve us, but rather to oppress us
-
empower others to break free of the chains of the patriarchy
-
uplift all women through our publication does by giving new and/or young writers the opportunity to share their voice in a male dominated landscape
-
combat misogynistic ideals from an intersectional lens
-
abolish the patriarchy and its subsequent social implications in the name of justice and liberation for all
-
advocate for human rights for all people
